Starts in/Finishes in: Hanoi/Hanoi
After breakfast, your guide will meet you for a 2.5-hour drive to Hoa Binh. Begin with a visit to Giang Mo, a village of the Muong minority, and take a walk through the rice fields. Next, explore the Muong Cultural Space to learn about Muong culture. Continue to the scenic Mai Chau Valley for lunch at a traditional stilt-house. Afterward, stroll around Pom Coong village and then embark on a 3-hour trek through lush paddy fields and local villages. Spend the night with a Thai family.

After breakfast at your homestay, drive north to Son La, passing fruit orchards and tea plantations. Interact with local tribes, including Black Thai, White Thai, H’mong, and Muong. Visit a tea plantation in Moc Chau, a renowned tea-growing region. Upon arrival in Son La, explore Son La Prison and a museum showcasing the lives and tools of Son La’s ethnic minorities, primarily the H’mong.
Note: If today is Sunday, visit the weekly ethnic market about 40km from Mai Chau before heading to Moc Chau and Son La.

Drive on winding roads, passing colorful minority groups. After lunch, navigate the impressive Pha Din Pass and stop at the top to hear a local legend about the pass. Arrive in Dien Bien Phu in the early afternoon for a guided tour of historical sites, including the Dien Bien Phu Museum, A1 Hill, and De Castries’s bunker. Dien Bien Phu, located in the Muong Thanh Valley near the Laos border, is known for its significant role in Vietnam’s history.

Explore the local market and city center before traveling to Muong Lay. Enjoy stunning gorges and the Nam Na River, with stops to visit authentic H’mong and Dao villages. Arrive in Lai Chau in the early afternoon, where you can have lunch and relax. Optional: Take a motorboat trip (additional cost) along the Black River to visit Thai minority villages and learn about their riverbank life. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Travel to Sapa, situated beside the Fansipan Mountain range. Though the road may be bumpy, the spectacular views of fertile valleys, pristine rivers, and towering mountains make the journey worthwhile. Stop at Heaven’s Gate for panoramic views of Muong Hoa Valley and Fansipan Mountain. Visit Silver Waterfall before continuing to Sapa town, arriving in the afternoon.
Note: On Thursdays and Sundays, the ethnic market in Tam Duong is vibrant and frequented by various local ethnic groups.

At 9:00 a.m, start your day with a walk through Sapa town and along a dirt trail through vegetable gardens and rice paddies. Enjoy the views of Muong Hoa Valley as you reach the river and continue walking along its bank. Arrive in Y Linh Ho village, home to the Black H’mong minority, and enjoy a picnic lunch by the river. After lunch, trek from Y Linh Ho to Lao Chai village, then follow a dirt path to Ta Van village, inhabited by the Giay minority. Return to Sapa and transfer to Lao Cai for your overnight train back to Hanoi.
